Volunteer With Us – now live!
Our hub near Falmouth runs on shared effort.
We are currently cultivating the land and building our pioneering Ocean Buffer Hub from the ground up. Right now, our volunteers are helping lay groundwork, build flowerbeds, assemble compost stores and design our rainwater collection system. In the future, volunteers will help with:- Preparing and maintaining algae cultures
- Monitoring pH, salinity, and growth data — watching the oceans “grow” in real time
- Harvesting and drying biomass to collect removed carbon
- Site maintenance, gardening, and hands-on build tasks
- Workshop support and welcoming visitors
- Admin, research, or remote support tasks
All roles are inclusive and adaptable. If you’re unsure about getting involved, email hello@oceanbufferproject.co.uk and we’ll do our best to help you overcome any barriers. We welcome all ages, abilities and experience levels, with training provided where needed.
Whether you can offer a few hours ad hoc, or more regular time, there’s space for you here. Volunteers can also access hub facilities and NVCO membership benefits.
Attend a Workshop – coming in 2027
We run small, practical sessions where you can:
- Learn how microalgae remove carbon
- Understand ocean acidification, buffering, and their impact on our world
- Grow your own mini ocean to take home
- Measure real data
- See what community carbon removal looks like in practice
These sessions are grounded and honest. We explain what we know, what we are still testing, and where the limits currently are.
Workshops are suitable for adults, families, schools, and community groups.
Sponsor a System
Our algae systems are small — but measurable.
Sponsoring a growing tank supports:
- Equipment maintenance
- Data collection and analysis
- School and community workshops
- Carbon stabilisation through biochar or mineral binding
Sponsors receive transparent reporting on growth yields and carbon estimates. We do not overstate impact — we share real numbers, so you can clearly demonstrate the positive contribution your organisation is supporting.
Partner With Us
We are always open to collaboration.
If you are:
- A local organisation
- A school or college
- A marine or environmental group
- A regenerative agriculture project
- A Cornish business aligned with low-impact or conservation values
We would welcome a conversation.
Partnerships may involve shared learning, site visits, educational sessions, or material collaborations. Everything is approached carefully and transparently — and we are open to new ideas.
